Importing a '69 'Vette to the NLs

Berichtdoor elmrphd » 24 Aug 2022, 12:55

Hallo,
(Pardon my use of English)

Has anyone imported a classic Corvette from the USA, recently.
My '69 should arrive in Rotterdam in early September.
I am wondering what all I can do before the appointment to make sure it goes through the RDW inspection as smoothly as possible.
For instance, do the headlights need to be changed for a EU-specification?
Anything else?

Thanks,
Steve, in Weesp, NL

The lighting needs to be EU-spec indeed, which might mean you'll have to swap the sealed beam units. Also the front side markers are only allowed to be yellow/amber, if I'm not mistaken, but perhaps they already are.

Other than that I'm not exactly sure. You might want to give one of the Dutch corvette specialists a call or an import specialist such as VDS for instance.

Looking forward to the photos!

Thank you!
Ok, so I need to buy and install a set of headlights. Jammer... But I guess that's nothing compared to the €1000 inspection fee... :-(
Luckily the side marker is already amber.
Thanks, again,

hi steve,

when you make an appointment at RDW, dont forget to chose the option that they stamp in the VIN into the chassis.
the "tagplate" behind your front screen is not allowed as an official VIN number, because its been attached to the birdcage with rivits.

THANKS DANNY!!
Sounds like great advice. I was unaware of that option to have the RDW stamp the VIN in the chassis. I will certainly ask for it!
