question of noob about C4 automatic transmission

Berichtdoor I-M » 23 Mei 2021, 20:33

All these years I was a fan of Corvettes and finally, I found on the market a very nice Corvette C4, 1985, 1st owner, relatively low mileage.
During the test drive, I was impressed (or slightly disappointed) how automatic transmission operates - every time when I shifted to "R" or from "R" to "Drive" I heard (and felt) a hit somewhere inside (and even the slight vibration of the body of the car). The seller said that this is normal and old transmissions were much more brutal than modern ones.
Could you answer me, please, is such behavior of transmission normal for Corvettes or the seller is not quite fair and it is better to run away from this car?

In addition from my side: sound is not like "metal to metal", it more looks like it is from a hydraulic system. I usually see a similar reaction (a kind of hydraulic shock) when my wife turns off a kitchen water tap faucet in my house very fast.

Its a "clunkkk" sound.
The old TH700R4 have that issue.
The car shakes a little.
Niks electrisch rijden , gewoon tanken en lawaai maken.
